How to verify your business on Meta: what paperwork they ask for and what it unlocks

Of everything that can hold up a WhatsApp connection, what holds it up most is not technical. It is an administrative step inside Meta called business verification, and almost nobody has it done when they need it.

What it is, concretely

Meta asks the company to prove it exists. In practice that is three things:

That the company is identified. Legal name and tax identification number, as they appear on the official register of the country. The name has to match the document exactly, not the trading name.

That the address can be checked. A physical address, backed by a document that mentions it: a utility bill, a bank statement, a certificate of incorporation.

That somebody from the company requests it. Verification is started from the company's Business Manager, by a user who has administrator permissions there.

It is the same kind of verification any advertising platform asks for, and once it is done it covers everything the company does inside Meta, not just WhatsApp.

What it unlocks

Without verification you can connect a number and start testing, with limits. With verification those limits are lifted, you can register more numbers, and the sending volume a real operation needs is enabled.

The problem is not working with trial limits. It is reaching the day volume grows and discovering that what is missing is paperwork that takes time.

Why it gets discovered late

Because until you need it, it does not get in the way. A team connects a number, tests with a handful of messages, everything works, and verification goes on the list of things for later. The day the agent goes live and two hundred conversations come in, verification becomes the only thing that matters, and by then the timing is out of the company's hands.

The case worth knowing about

There is a situation that comes up often and has no good answer: a number that was working ends up disconnected from the platform and Meta will not let it reconnect, with no reason given. Most likely it has to do with business verification, but Meta does not confirm it.

What is left is to open a ticket and wait, and meanwhile, if the operation cannot stop, to go live with another number. It is not a satisfying answer and we are not going to present it as one.

Where to start

Today, even if you do not yet know which number you are going to connect. Verification belongs to the company and not to the number, so it can be started before anything else has been decided.

It is also the only part of going live that depends entirely on a third party. While it runs, everything else can move forward: choosing the number, setting up the payment method, building the agent and submitting templates for approval. When verification comes through, everything is ready to connect on the spot.
